The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has imposed penalties on BV Gaming, the operator of BetVictor, and Fitzdares Canada for offering prohibited bets on major junior hockey events.
According to AGCO, both operators accepted bets on contests from the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), including the Ontario Hockey League, Western Hockey League, and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, during the 2022-23 season.
This action is in violation of the standards that prohibit betting on minor league sports, specifically the three major junior hockey leagues of the CHL. Standard 4.34, paragraph 15, explicitly prohibits wagering on this level of sporting event.
As a result, BV Gaming (BetVictor) and Fitzdares Canada have been ordered to pay a penalty of CA$15,000 (£8,913/€10,380/US$11,337) each.
